"Catchers are sublime, enchanting and some strange kind of wonderful" (Melody Maker).
'Something’s Taking Over Me' is the new single from critically-acclaimed Northern Irish band Catchers. Songwriter Dale Grundle is joined by old band-mate Alice Lemon and new drummer Roger Luxton for this release, the precursor to a new Catchers' album which is due out in 2022.
2021 Oscar-winning director James Reed (My Octopus Teacher) has teamed up with Catchers to create a stunning video for the track. The video will debut on Catchers' YouTube Channel on Friday 5 November 2021 and the single will be available for purchase and streaming on all platforms at the same time.
The song, Something’s Taking Over Me, is about passion becoming obsession, and features the signature Catchers sound of Dale’s vocals intertwined with Alice’s soaring choral lines.
lyrics
Be it a song on the wind or a whisper through the woods,
I leave my house under starlight, trembling to the world.
Shore up your defences, guard against your foes,
There's black art in the nightfall, silver upon your throat.
And something's taking over me
For all the world to see.
I got a hunger I can't feed.
There's a devil at work in me.
(Oh Lord I never wanted
This black heart,
A tainted bloodline to night trails,
The cruellest moon at work in me)
The forces that act upon me cause me to engage.
I take no comfort from the catch, no pleasure in the chase.
This lifeblood, this lifeblood coursing through my veins.
Free from the code of man, I am his world unmade.
And something's taking over me
For all the world to see
I got a hunger I can't feed.
There's a devil at work in me.
(Oh Lord I never wanted
This black heart,
A tainted bloodline to night trails,
The cruellest moon at work in me).
